about
Annalyse was inspired to write this song based on her family history. She is a direct descendant of the McCoys of eastern Kentucky who feuded with the Hatfields. The song is universal, however, applying to anyone who has a fire & a passion in their blood that they just can't explain, except to say that "It's in the Blood."
lyrics
Lyrics:
Single teardrop in your eye
You turn to me and ask how I survive
A summer rain is falling and we don’t see eye to eye
What a big surprise
You ask, why am I so shell shocked
You ask if I’ve been through a war
You think you know me but here’s something to ponder baby
When you wonder what I’m fighting for
It’s in the blood
It’s in my father’s weathered hands
It’s in the blood
Well it takes a while to understand
If you give in, then you live in an existence you can’t win in
When my cup runneth over it may cause a flood
But it’s in the blood
Yeah, it’s in the blood
History’s moving, moving fast
But we’re created from our past
And I was raised to walk up every mountain that I see
I was born free
Sometimes a pain all too familiar
Grabs me and knocks me to the ground
Decades of fighting for a family’s survival
And you wonder why I’m still around
It’s in the blood
It’s in my father’s weathered hands
It’s in the blood
Well it takes a while to understand
If you lay down, and you stay down, the whole world it starts to weigh down
When my cup runneth over it may cause a flood
But it’s in the blood
Yeah, it’s in the blood
Spent a lot of years looking to the world for advice on who to be
Then I realized that I can’t avoid it, that the blood runs all through me
This heart is pumping three miles a minute, every beat it does ring true
I sing to the soul of a spirit alive, and it’ll kick the shit out of you
It’s in the Blood
It’s in the blood
It’s in my father’s weathered hands
It’s in the blood
Well it takes a while to understand
If you give in, then you live in an existence you can’t win in
When my cup runneth over it may cause a flood
But it’s in the blood
Yeah, it’s in the blood
